Advani flays panel probing allegations against Modi Friday, May 27 2005 10:55 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Ahmedabad:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president L K Advani yesterday (May 26, 2005) attacked the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government for setting up the high-powered Ministerial committee that would probe into allegations made by a senior IPS official against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
"There is no provision in the constitution to form such a Ministerial committee against the elected Chief Minister of any State. This is completely unconstitutional," Advani told media persons while attending a function in his constituency of Gandhinagar yesterday.
"If there was any such provision then we could also have done the same to the then Bihar Chief Minister who has several allegations pending against him but we did not do so," Advani said.
Advani praised Gujarat as a state and said that its stand among other States in the nation was evident in the recent report of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation where in it ranked among the best in all areas.
"In the report Gujarat led in all fronts be it economic, law and order or urban development. What more of a sign does anybody want about the stability of the state," the BJP president said.
The IPS officer R Sreekumar had filed an application before the Central Adminstrative Tribunal accusing Modi of asking the police to go soft on the rioters belonging to the majority while targeting the minority community members in a vindictive way.
Advani inaugurated a nagarpalika office that would function under e-governance and would help the local people approach the administration with their problems.
