Lauding India for its effective rehabilitation works in the Tsunami-hit areas, former US President, Bill Clinton said in Chennai today (May 27, 2005) the Country was not only able to finance its reconstruction work in the affected areas but also help its neighbouring countries, which also witnessed a similar tragedy last December.
"What struck me most at the Tsunami-hit Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu was that India was not only able to finance its reconstruction work, but also help its neighbouring countries," he said.
The district administration, the State Government, NGOs and UN agencies were functioning in a "coordinated fashion" and the district administration was doing an "excellent job," he told reporters at Meenambakkam airport in Chennai this evening, on return from a brief visit to Nagapattinam.
The district administration was trying to do its best in providing livelihood to the affected people by trying to improve their economic conditions through diversified activities, he said.
