Court slams Guj Govt for slack probe in riot case Friday, May 27 2005 12:13 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Ahmedabad:
A local court yesterday (May 26, 2005) reprimanded Gujarat police for not investigating a post-Godhra riot case 'seriously' enough and ordered the State Government to pay a compensation of Rs 6,000 to the accused.
Judge B S Gadhavi observed that police has 'not satisfactorily investigated' a loot case, which occurred during the post-Godhra riots in Meghaninagar area of Ahmedabad where a shop belonging to a Muslim was looted in March 2002.
Police had arrested an auto-driver Gordhan Marwadi in the case.
The judge observed that the police has not been able to justify the arrest of the accused in the case nor have satisfactorily investigated the complaint filed by the owner of the shop Ghulam Abbas.
Due to slack investigation by the investigating officer of Navrangpura police station both the complainant and the accused had to suffer, he observed.
It also asked the case to be re-investigated after asking the State Government to pay a fine of Rs 6,000 as compensation to the accused.
