Tributes paid to Nehru on 41st death anniversary

New Delhi: The nation today (May 27, 2005) paid rich tributes to its first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 41st death anniversary.

Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi offered floral tributes at Shanti Van, the 'samadhi' of the late leader.

Lieutenant Governor (Delhi) B L Joshi, Union Ministers Shivraj Patil and Ghulam Nabi Azad and the Prime Minister's wife Gursharan Kaur were among other dignitaries who attended a memorial service held on the occasion at Shanti Van.

Sacred hymns filled the air as an all-religion meeting was also held.

A troupe sang patriotic songs and a recording of Nehru's speech was also played on the occasion.
