Amethi is my 'learning place', says Rahul Gandhi Friday, May 27 2005 19:11 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
In the midst of reports that Generationnext in Congress would soon be asked to shoulder greater responsibilities, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has described Amethi as his "learning place" and said in future, he might not restrict his political activities to his Lok Sabha constituency alone.
"Amethi is a learning place for me. It is more manageable and I have a good rapport with the people. In future, perhaps, I will go to other places too", he told "The Week" news magazine in an interview.
He was asked why he spends so much time in Amethi as public sentiment was that he should travel to other parts too.
Gandhi, who has toured his constituency in Uttar Pradesh 11 times since elected from the traditional Parliamentary seat of the Nehru-Gandhi family, told the questioner that it was a "hard fact of politics" that it was difficult to deliver 100 percent for a Member of Parliament.
"I have been able to do only 40 per cent of what should have been done. The remaining 60 per cent I compensate by spending time with my people", he said.
