Saturday, May 28 2005 19:25 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Ahmedabad: After agreeing to the recommendations of the Central POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act) Review Committee in the Tiffin bomb blast case, Gujarat Government today (May 28, 2005) said it might oppose the committee's suggestions in the Godhra train carnage case.

"We might oppose the review committee's recommendations in the Godhra carnage case," public prosecutor Sudhir Bhrambhatt told sources in Ahmedabad.

"We are still studying the case and we might oppose the recommendations on May 31," he added.

In a crucial observation, the Central POTA Review Committee had recently asked the Gujarat Government to remove charges of POTA against all the 131 accused in the case.

Yesterday, the State Government had filed an application in the POTA court in the Tiffin bomb blast case in which it said that it agreed to the recommendations of the review committee in the case, which had asked it to withdraw POTA charges against one Munawar Beg alias Captain.

Captain was one of the several accused charged of triggering bomb blasts in local buses in Ahmedabad during post-Godhra riots.

The Committee had visited Gujarat in the first week of April this year to conduct a review of all the 14 POTA cases in the State, including the Godhra train carnage case.
