Saudi Arabia's King Fahd in good health: Official Saturday, May 28 2005 20:31 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Dubai:
Oil rich Saudi Arabia's King Fahd bin Abdulaziz is in "good health", a day after he was admitted to a hospital for medical tests.
The monarch is "in good health and, thank God, the medical examinations which he is undergoing are proceeding normally," an official was quoted by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as saying.
He denied reports circulated by some news agencies that the Kingdom had announced an emergency situation and cancelled vacations of security forces personnel.
Fahd's hospitalisation yesterday (May 27, 2005) had triggered reports that an emergency had been declared in the Kingdom and that military leaves had been cancelled.
The agency quoted the official as criticising the TV stations, "Which are looking for what they think could affect the internal situation in the Kingdom that is strong, normal and stable in all its aspects."
The official SPA said yesterday that King Fahd, 82, had entered King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh to undergo some medical examinations.
Life was normal in the capital with offices, schools and shops open. A scheduled meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council heads of State was going ahead as planned, reports said.
