Noted writer, journalist Pt Gopal Prasad Vyas dead

New Delhi: Noted litterateur and veteran journalist Pandit Gopal Prasad Vyas died in New Delhi today (May 28, 2005), family sources said.

Vyas, who was 92, is survived by three sons and three daughters. The noted writer was decorated with several awards, including the Padmashree.

Born in village Parasauli in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, Vyas began his literary career in the same place before joining famous writer Babu Gulab Rai in Agra to edit the 'Sahitya Sandesh'.

He joined 'Dainik Hindustan' in Delhi in 1943 and went on to have a decade-long association with the newspaper.

Vyas also had an important role in building 'Hindi Bhavan' in the capital.

In Delhi, he was also General Secretary of the 'Hindi Sahitya Sammelan' as well as life-long General Secretary of the Purushottam Hindi Bhavan Nyas.
