Bihar BJP being revamped; S K Modi appointed chief

New Delhi: Ahead of the Assembly elections in Bihar, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president L K Advani today (May 30, 2005) revamped the State party unit by appointing National vice president Sushil Kumar Modi as its chief.

Modi's appointment came after the incumbent Gopal Narain Singh submitted his resignation, BJP National vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told sources in New Delhi.

Modi will take charge with immediate effect, he said.

Advani also appointed former Union Minister C P Thakur as Chairman of Bihar Election Campaign Committee, Naqvi said.

Bihar - Party Position

He said the services of Singh would be utilised elsewhere.

The reorganisation been undertaken to enable the party to face the challenging forthcoming elections in the State more effectively, Naqvi said.
