Bangalore:
The prosecution today (May 30, 2005) sought time till Thursday (June 2, 2005) from the General Court Martial to submit "some sort" of preliminary report on the psychiatric evaluation on Indian Air Force (IAF) officer Anjali Gupta who has been arraigned on charges, including indiscipline and insubordination.
The court while adjourning the hearing till June 2 directed the authorities to give concrete information on the tests.
"By Thursday, some sort of preliminary investigation report on the psychiatric evaluation can be provided," Prosecuting Officer Wg Cdr R D Dubey told the Court.
The court had ordered psychiatric evaluation of Anjali to determine whether she should continue to be under close arrest and her threats to end her life were serious.
"These are all psychiatric tests, which are ongoing. We would not be able to provide any information now," Dubey said.
Court Presiding Officer Grp Captain V Ganesh said, "We require concrete information on the tests by Thursday."
Defending Officer Vijay Kumar accused the prosecution of adopting delaying tactics and urged for expediting the tests.
"The prosecution has to expedite the tests. Earlier my client was accused of delaying and seeking adjournments. Now, the administration is doing it," he said.
Anjali is being evaluated at the Air Force Command Hospital by an expert team, which includes specialists from NIMHANS and lady doctors.
Anjali who was working as an education officer at the Aircraft and Systems Training Establishment (ASTE) in Bangalore, has also levelled sexual harassment charges against three of her superiors, into which a Court of Inquiry is on.
