Guj Govt seeks time to form opinion in Godhra case Tuesday, May 31 2005 13:46 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Ahmedabad:
Gujarat Government today (May 31, 2005) tabled Central Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) Review Committee's recommendations on the Godhra train carnage case in the designated POTA court and sought time for 'forming an opinion' on the committee's suggestion.
Public prosecutor after tabling the report of the review committee simultaneously also filed an application seeking two weeks time to 'form an opinion' on the suggestions made by the review committee in the train carnage case.
In a significant development, the Review Committee had earlier asked the Gujarat Government to withdraw charges of POTA against all the 131 accused in the case where 59 karsevaks where burnt alive on the Sabarmati Express on February 27, 2002.
Special POTA judge Sonia Gokani heard detailed arguments from both public prosecutor and the defence counsel before allowing ten days time till June 10.
