Pak to roll out red carpet for Hurriyat leaders Wednesday, June 1 2005 18:51 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Islamabad:
Ahead of the visit of moderate Hurriyat leaders led by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Pakistan today (Jun 1, 2005) said that all arrangements are complete to accord a warm welcome to the delegation when they arrive in PoK by the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus tomorrow (Jun 2, 2005).
"All arrangements are complete and the Hurriyat leaders would be given a warm welcome when they arrive by the bus tomorrow," Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesman Jalil Abbas Jilani told the State-run PTV.
Both India and Pakistan have cleared the names of 11 leaders of the moderate faction of Hurriyat. They included Mirwaiz Umer Farroq of Awami Action Committee, Abdul Ghani Bhutt of the Muslim Conference, Bilal Ghani Lone of Peoples Conference, Maulvi Abbas Ansari of the Ittehadul Muslimeen and Fazlur Haq of the Peoples Political Council.
The Hurriyat leaders would be received at Chakoti on the other side of the Line Of Control, where the two sides were connected by a small bridge called 'Aman Setu' (Peace Bridge).
Later, they would address a reception at Muzaffarabad and hold talks with PoK President, General (Retd) Anwar Khan, Prime Minister Sikender Hayat and other political leaders.
They would also address the PoK Assembly and arrive in Islamabad on June 4 for talks with President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and other leaders, Jilani said.
The hard line faction headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, however, spurned Pakistan's invitation accusing Islamabad of "deviating" from its basic stand on Kashmir.
