'Family to decide who would contest Sunil's place'
Wednesday, June 1 2005 22:33 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: Somebody from the family only will carry forward the legacy of former Union Sports Minister Sunil Dutt and the family will have to decide who would contest from his (Sunil's) Lok Sabha constituency if the Congress offers the ticket, late MP's son actor Sanjay Dutt said in Mumbai today (Jun 1, 2005).

"Its too quick, too soon. We haven't given it a thought. We have just returned after immersing his (Sunil's) ashes. But if offered a ticket, the family will decide who will contest the seat," Sanjay told a press conference in Mumbai.

When asked if any member of the Dutt family would be a Congress party candidate, Sanjay said, "Madam Sonia Gandhi will have to decide that."

To a question if his sister Priya would be a probable candidate in the by-polls, Sanjay said, "Our family will discuss and decide on the issue."

The social work the former Union Sports Minister had done for the slum dwellers and the family will carry AIDS patients forward, he said adding, "Father's name will never die."

Stating that the late Dutt had left a huge responsibility on his shoulders, Sanjay said, "I will make the whole country proud through my work."

Sanjay said that he had called the press conference today "to thank the country for honouring his father and to thank Madam Gandhi and the Prime Minister for giving his late father and his family such a big honour."

Asked if the senior Dutt was affected by Congress' decision to admit Sanjay Nirupam into the party, Sanjay said.

"Nirupam is insignificant. My father was too large a man for such a small person."

Sanjay said that he would resume shooting in 10 days.
