Indo-Pak peace process 'not irreversible': Hurriyat
Friday, June 3 2005 16:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Muzaffarabad (PoK): Hurriyat Conference today (Jun 3, 2005) asserted that the ongoing Indo-Pak peace process was "not irreversible" if the "basic issue" was ignored and said approaches for resolution of the Kashmir problem could be altered for achievement of the goal.

Addressing the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) Assembly in Muzaffarabad, Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq maintained that dialogue was the only way for resolving the vexed issue but said the talks should be "meaningful and result-oriented."

Spotlight: Kashmir is NOT negotiable

"We want improvement in relations between India and Pakistan. But the peace process cannot be irreversible if attention is diverted from the basic issue, although there can be trade, cultural exchanges, sports," he said.

Asserting that there could be no peace between India and Pakistan till the Kashmir issue was resolved, he demanded triangular dialogue involving representatives of Kashmiris saying it could provide the path for a solution.

Noting that the separatist leaders currently on a tour of PoK had "concrete proposals", Farooq said, "We have to have a realistic approach and not only an emotional one."
