Ranchi: JDU (Janata Dal United) leader and NDA (National Democratic Alliance) candidate Digvijay Singh today (Jun 3, 2005) won the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Jharkhand securing 43 votes in 81-member house.

His opponents RJD's (Rashtriya Janata Dal) Muktinath Upadhyay polled 18 votes while JMM's (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha) Durga Soren collected 17 votes.

In all, 78 out of 81 elected members of Jharkhand Assembly today cast their votes while three MLAs of left parties boycotted the poll.

Two Forward Block MLAs Aparna Sen and Bhanupratap Sahi and (CPML-liberation) MLA Vinod Singh did not vote as UPA (United Progressive Alliance) failed to put up a consensus candidate.

Singh, who was expected to get votes of 42 MLAs of the NDA, secured an extra vote, apparently coming from one of the Opposition MLAs.
