CPM wants CBI investigation into Gujarat cases Sunday, June 5 2005 20:22 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kolkata:
Alleging that the Narendra Modi Government was trying to "hide evidence" of mass killings, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) today (Jun 5, 2005) urged the Centre to take steps for CBI inquiry into communal cases in Gujarat.
''In Gujarat, a number of incidents of mass killing during the communal violence in 2002 remain to be taken up. The Central Government should take steps to expedite the investigations by informing the Supreme Court that it is willing to have the serious cases referred to the CBI for investigation,'' CPM general secretary Prakash Karat told newspersons in Kolkata.
"Narendra Modi Government in Gujarat was trying to hide evidences of mass killings," Karat said.
He said the CPM central committee, which concluded it's meeting today, was concerned that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) outfits were ''mounting their communal activities in different places, particularly in the States ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), like Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
''In the past three months in Bhilwara, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal unleashed a reign of terror on the minority community,'' he said.
The central committee also demanded that the POTA review committee's report on those detained in the Godhra case be made public and acted upon.
It also called upon all democratic and secular forces to combat the ''disruptive activities'' of RSS outfits.
