Bypoll result will have no impact on Govt: Gowda
Sunday, June 5 2005 18:46 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Belgaum: Though jubilant over the victory of his party over its coalition partner Congress in the bypoll to Chamarajpet Assembly seat in Karnataka, former Prime Minister and Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) chief H D Deve Gowda today (Jun 5, 2005) said the result would have no impact on their coalition Government in the State.

The success of the JDS in the by-election had demonstrated "the strength of his party and the failure of the Congress to win the support of people," he told a press conference in Belgaum.

The wresting of the Chamarajpet seat from the Congress had strengthened JDS, he said. Deputy Chief Minister and senior JDS leader Siddaramaiah, expressing happiness over the victory of party candidate Jamir Ahmed Khan, said people had endorsed the programmes of JDS and its commitment to the poor by their verdict.

Siddaramaiah was also in agreement with Gowda that the bypoll outcome will have no bearing on the coalition Government.
