Zardari recoving satisfactorily after heart attack
Sunday, June 5 2005 13:07 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Dubai: Former Pakistan Premier Benazir Bhutto's husband Asif Ali Zardari is "recovering satisfactorily" after undergoing an angioplasty at a hospital in Dubai following a heart attack.

Zardari, who has a history of ailments, suffered a heart attack yesterday (Jun 4, 2005) after which he was admitted to the hospital, where doctors performed an angioplasty on him and inserted two stents. He will remain hospitalised for another two days.

Zardari, with Benazir by his side all along, was first admitted to the Iranian Hospital here for treatment of spinal pain following a severe attack of spondolytis. Complications, however, set in, and he was shifted to Welcare Hospital for treatment of cardiac problems, the 'Khaleej Times' said.

He is reported to be recovering satisfactorily at the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU) of the hospital after going through the interventional procedure. Zardari will remain in the ICCU for another two days, doctors said.

Zardari was "diagnosed early Saturday morning to have suffered a heart attack," a health bulletin issued by the media office of Benazir-led Pakistan People's Party (PPP) said.

He was examined by a cardiac surgeon and the angiography subsequently revealed that the main artery was almost completely blocked, with a 99.9 per cent blockage.
