NE: Committee on AFSPA to submit report to Patil
Monday, June 6 2005 08:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: A committee set up to review implementation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the Northeast would submit its report to Home Minister Shivraj Patil today (Jun 6, 2005), official sources said.

The five-member committee, headed by Retd Supreme Court Judge Justice B Jeevan Reddy, was set up in November last year after an uproar over the rape of a woman allegedly by some Army personnel in Manipur.

The committee, which took just over six months to complete its report, has compiled its observations and recommendations on the basis of views expressed by a cross-section of society in the Northeast, including Government officials and civil rights groups.
