Panaji: Pratapsinh Rane has been elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party and will be the new Chief Minister of Goa, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Margaret Alva said in Panaji today (Jun 6, 2005).

Rane and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Ravi Naik are expected to meet Governor S C Jamir in the evening and stake claim to form the Government.

Congress allies Nationalist congress Party (NCP) and Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) would be part of the new Government, Alva said adding that they had already received letters of support from NCP and that from MGP was expected by evening.

The swearing in likely to be held tomorrow (Jun 7, 2005), she added.
