Petition challenging barring Goa MLAs filed in SC
Monday, June 6 2005 12:53 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: A petition challenging the disqualification of Goa MLAs by the Mumbai High Court was today (Jun 6, 2005) filed before the Supreme Court.

The petition was mentioned by Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatagi before a bench comprising Justice P V Reddi and Justice Arijit Pasayat, which said it would consider it.

The Panaji Bench of the Mumbai High Court on May 27 had set aside the election of two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs on grounds of holding office of profit during the May 2002 Assembly polls.

A single judge Bench had set aside the election of Rajendra Arlekar from Vasco Seat and Dayanand Mandrekar from the Siolim seat on the grounds that the two held "office of profit" during the election period.
