Congress disappointed over poor show in UP bypolls Tuesday, June 7 2005 08:04 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Congress yesterday (Jun 6, 2005) expressed disappointment over the party's dismal performance in the Assembly by-polls in Uttar Pradesh, but dismissed suggestions that Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Salman Khurshid was solely responsible for the poor show.
The party also did not agree to views that its defeat in two Assembly by-polls in Kerala was due to senior leader K Karunakaran breaking away from the Congress.
Party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters the Congress would look holistically at the results in UP and would take corrective action.
Replying to a question, he said it would be wrong to pin blame on the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) chief.
He said the Assembly by-polls in the States including Kerala could by no stretch of imagination be considered referendum on the performance of State Governments.
