BJP Parliamentary Board meet on L K Advani issue

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Parliamentary Board and its central office bearers met in New Delhi today (Jun 8, 2005) to deliberate on the issue of resignation of L K Advani from the post of party chief.

Chaired by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, senior party leaders M Venkaiah Naidu, M M Joshi, Arun Jaitely, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Sushma Swaraj, Bal Apte, Sanjay Joshi, Rajnath Singh, Kalyan Singh and party Chief Ministers Narendra Modi, Babu Lal Gaur and Raman Singh attended the meeting.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Board, which was also attended by Central office bearers, besides former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Immediately after the meeting the leaders barring Vajpayee and Murli Manohar Joshi left for Advani's residence in an attempt to persuade him to withdraw his resignation. Those who met Advani included vice presidents M Venkaiah Naidu and Muktar Abbas Naqvi, Pramod Mahajan, Ananth Kumar.

Sources said the Board would meet again tomorrow (Jun 9, 2005).

Earlier in the day, Advani had asserted that he would not relent on his decision to quit.
