Kancheepuram:
The two Kanchi Shankaracharyas, Jayendra Saraswathi and Vijayendra Saraswathi arrived at the Kanchi Mutt today (Jun 8, 2005) after a gap of over seven months, bringing with them a deity of Chandra Mouliswara and related puja articles.
The two Seers, who were arrested in the Sankararaman murder case and were camping at nearby Kalavai, left the town early this morning after performing puja and receiving prasadam from the 'Margabandiswarar' temple there.
On arrival at the Kancheepuram district border, the Seers were accorded a traditional welcome. They later got down from the van and went to a shamiana in front of a temple, where the priest tied silk cloths around their heads.
After the ceremony, the Seers went to the Mutt, where they were accorded a traditional welcome. Officials presented them with two umbrellas and two elephants. Jayendra then offered 'Aarthi' to the idol of Adi sankara and went ahead with preparations for pujas.
This will be the first visit of Vijayendra Saraswathi to the Mutt since January 10 when he was arrested, while Jayendra Saraswathi had made a few brief visits.
It was in October last that the Seers left the Mutt for Andhra Pradesh, where Jayendra was arrested on November 11.
Jayendra Saraswathi, who was directed by the Supreme Court not to visit the mutt till the chargesheet was filed in the case, had been staying in Kalavai since his release on bail on Jan 11.
Vijendra Saraswathi, who was staying in Chennai after his release on bail, joined his senior in April.
