India Today, Dainik Jagran ranked first in survey

Mumbai: News magazine 'India Today' (Hindi) was ranked first in the top ten magazines read while 'Dainik Jagran' bagged the first position in the top 10 dailies in the readership survey conducted by the National Readership Studies Council (NRSC).

'Dainik Jagran' inched from its second position in 2003 to the first position in 2005 with a readership of 21,12,3000 while 'Dainik Bhaskar' slipped from its first position in 2003 to the second position with a readership of 17,37,3000 in the urban and rural sector category (excluding Malayalam), the survey said.

Telugu daily 'Eenadu' moved from the fourth position in 2003 to occupy the third position on the readership ladder followed by Hindi dailies 'Hindustan' at fourth and 'Amar Ujala' at fifth. 'Daily Thanthi' is at sixth position, 'Lokmat' at seventh, 'Rajasthan Patrika' at eigth, 'Times of India' at ninth and 'Anand Bazar Patrika' at 10th position.

In the urban category, 'Dainik Jagran' continued to top the list of the most widely read newspaper with a readership of 1,04,62,000 displacing 'Dainik Bhaskar' which came second with a readership of 97,06,000.

The 'Times of India' is ranked third in the urban market sector with a readership of 72,94,000 followed by 'Amar Ujala' (4th), 'Daily Thanthi' (5th), 'Lokmat' (sixth), 'Gujarat Samachar' (seventh), 'Ananda Bazar Patrika' (eigth), 'Hindustan' at ninth position and 'Eenadu' at 10th place.
