New Delhi: Close on the heels of Sangeet Natak Akademi, the National School of Drama (NSD) has a new chief with noted theatre personality Amal Allana being appointed to head the august cultural organisation.

Allana succeeded noted actor Anupam Kher, who was appointed during the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) regime and had resigned in January this year.

Since then, noted Marathi playwright Satish Alekar, who is the Vice-Chairman, was officiating.

Allana is currently abroad and would take charge of her new assignment next month, NSD sources said.

The appointment of Allana comes two days after removal of Sonal Mansingh as head of the Sangeet Natak Akademi in the face of a 'revolt' by eminent artists in the Akademi's executive board against what they called her 'autocratic' style of functioning.
