Conference of Governors to be held on June 14&15 Thursday, June 9 2005 14:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

The Conference of Governors, which was postponed in February following President A P J Abdul Kalam sustaining a fracture, will now be held on June 14 and 15.
The focus of the two-day Conference, which will be presided by the President, would be on the overall national security scenario and border management related issues.
Besides, effective Disaster Management Strategies, particularly Tsunami, would also figure.
Twenty-eight Governors and 3 Lt Governors of the States and Union Territories will attend the Conference in which Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and several Union Ministers, including those of Home, Defence and Finance and Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission would participate.
The Conference would also discuss the road map of perspective development planning under the Tenth Five Year Plan, concept and economic implications of the Value Added Tax (VAT), effective and gainful utilisation of Governors as Chancellors in the governance of Universities and elevating the minds of the youth.
Law and order, development programmes and other issues special to individual States and Union Territories would also be discussed and action plans evolved, a Rashtrapati Bhavan release said.
