NDA to discuss Advani's resignation: Fernandes Thursday, June 9 2005 20:18 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Guwahati:
NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Convener George Fernandes today (Jun 9, 2005) said the Alliance would be meeting within a day or two to discuss the resignation of L K Advani as BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) President in the wake of his remarks on Pakistan founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
Pointing out that the Jinnah issue was not an NDA issue but a BJP one, Fernandes said, the NDA would be meeting within a day or two to discuss the Advani issue (resignation).
"All of us are talking about a national discussion to correct history that has been twisted so long", he told reporters adding that, "I will defend Advani to the end".
To a query on Tehelka expose, the former Defence Minister asked, "Is it journalism to throw money at Army officers' lap".
Criticising UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government's treatment to former Supreme Court judge S N Phukan, who had recently submitted his commission's report on defence deals, he said, "They (centre) did not feel ashamed to call Phukan a liar and accused him of preparing his report after taking bribe from me".
During his visit here since yesterday, Fernandes said he had interacted with Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leaders and told them that every one should ensure to dislodge Congress Government from the State in the Assembly elections due next year.
