Documents of Kanchi Seers cases found 'disturbed'
Thursday, June 9 2005 09:24 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Kancheepuram: Few boxes containing the documents relating to various cases were found 'disturbed' following the entry of some 'unknown persons' into a chamber of the Judicial Magistrate-I court in Kancheepuram on Tuesday (Jun 7, 2005), police said yesterday (Jun 8, 2005).

The court officials, who informed the police about the incident, said they were verifying whether there were any theft of documents relating to the cases on Sankararaman, a temple manager, who was murdered in September last and Kanchi Seers and many other associates of the Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt in Kancheepuram were arrested few months back in connection with the case.

However, refuting such chances, police said the files relating to Sankararaman murder case were 'safely deposited' at the Chengalpattu court.

According a section of lawyers, "The thieves, who gained entry into the chamber through the slates of the roof, may have aimed at the files relating to the arrest of a liquor seller, who was arrested last week and produced in the court with the impounded cash of Rs 47 lakh found in his procession."

However, this too was discounted by the police, who said the files relating his arrest were kept in the JM-II court.

The court officials said the verification of files in JM-1 court was still going on.
