Advani leads NDA to Kalam to protest dissolution
Friday, June 10 2005 17:06 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Terming the dissolution of Bihar Assembly as a "colossal fraud on the Constitution", an NDA (National Democratic Alliance) delegation led by BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader L K Advani and JDU (Janata Dal United) chief George Fernandes today (Jun 10, 2005) lodged a strong protest with President A P J Abdul Kalam and urged him to undo the "unconstitionality".

"It is our obligation to point out to the President the colossal fraud on the Constitution," BJP general secretary incharge of Bihar Arun Jaitley told reporters after the 30-minute meeting with Kalam.

Spotlight: Bihar Elections

Earlier, Advani and Fernandes led a march on behalf of JDU and rebel LJP (Lok Janshakti Party) MLAs of the dissolved House to Rashtrapati Bhawan to present a memorandum to Kalam.

Jaitley claimed while 126 members of the dissolved House were present before the President, six others could not come as four of them were in jail and two because of other reasons.

He also circulated copies of letters by the four MLAs in jail supporting Nitish Kumar's candidature for Bihar Chief Ministership.

"The Government has not given the correct picture when it sent the report to President who was then in Moscow while recommending dissolution of the House," Jaitley said alleging Kalam was "misled" about the support from 132 to 135 MLAs to Kumar.

Asked about the response from the President, Jaitley said, "He heard us and said he would look into it".
