Advani to lead NDA delegation to President Kalam Friday, June 10 2005 15:08 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Even as BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) grapples with a crisis following the resignation of its President L K Advani, he would be leading an NDA (National Democratic Alliance) delegation later today (June 10, 2005) to President A P J Abdul Kalam to protest against the dissolution of the Bihar Assembly.
Advani would be joined by senior JDU (Janata Dal United) leaders George Fernandes, Nitish Kumar and Sharad Yadav besides party leaders Arun Jaitely and Sushma Swaraj in leading MLAs of the two parties and independents in their march from Vijay Chowk to Rashtrapati Bhavan, BJP Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters in New Delhi.
"The Bihar Assembly was dissolved by the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government under pressure from RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) chief Laloo Prasad. This was a murder of democracy and the delegation will convey to the President the need to protect the constitution and look for safeguard against any violations," Naidu said.
The party Vice President said there was "no logic, no legal or constitutional sanctity" in the action of Bihar Governor Buta Singh in dissolving the State Assembly.
"The Governor is duty bound to explore all possibilities in formation of a Government. But he did not make any effort in this direction and on the other hand scuttled efforts to do so," he said.
Naidu said that the "misdeeds" of the Governor and the events leading up to the dissolution of the Assembly would be put up before the President.
"If some Assembly had to be dissolved, it should have been Goa where the Congress and the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) are still engaged in bickering over Government formation," he said.
