We will not accept Advani as BJP chief, says VHP Friday, June 10 2005 19:29 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Ahmedabad:
Unhappy over withdrawal of resignation by L K Advani as BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) chief, the VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) today (Jun 10, 2005) said he had not apologised for the remarks made about M A Jinnah and Babri Masjid in Pakistan and the issue would be discussed at a meeting of VHP top brass in Amritsar on June 14 and 15.
VHP general secretary Praveen Togadia said that Advani, by not apologising for his remarks, had "insulted the country, which will never forgive him. The saints of VHP will also not forgive him."
Reacting sharply to Advani's withdrawal of resignation, VHP treasurer Ramnath Mahendra said in Kanpur that his organization would not accept him as BJP President.
"We will strongly oppose BJP president L K Advani's withdrawal of his resignation as party president. We will not accept him anymore," he said.
Mahendra said the Advani issue would be taken up in 'Margdarshak Mandal' meeting of VHP in Haridwar on June 14 and 15 and saints were likely to take a decision in this regard.
He said VHP top brass would have a four-day meeting from June 27 to 30 in Amritsar where too the issue would come up for discussion.
