Hubli:
Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal-United (JDU) today (Jun 10, 2005) came down heavily on the Karnataka Government for its what they called "meek" surrender to private medical and dental college managements in conceding 50 per cent of seats to them.
State unit BJP president Jagadish Shettar addressing a press conference in Hubli alleged that the Government by colluding with private colleges has cheated students.
He urged the Government to mount pressure on the Centre to enact a uniform legislation enunciating guidelines for admission of students to professional courses.
Shettar claimed that the coalition Government headed by Chief Minister N Dharam Singh will collapse any moment.
The State unit JDU president B Somasekhar talking to reporters at Bangalore, charged that the Government has deceived students by agreeing for 50:50 seat sharing quota.
He dubbed the Government promise to open six new medical colleges to help poor and meritorious students as an "eye wash".
