Dasmunshi to bring TC to anti-Left front combine Friday, June 10 2005 10:03 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kolkata:
Refusing to give up hope of bringing Trinamool Congress (TC) to the anti-Left morcha, Union Water Resources Minister P R Dasmunshi last night (Jun 9, 2005) said that he would again try to bring Trinamool to the fold to fight the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM)-led ruling Left Front in West Bengal before the next year's Assembly election.
Despite Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee's refusal to join hands with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to fight the Marxists in the June 19 poll to Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), Dasmunshi said, ''It would have been better if the Trinamool had also joined the UDA. However, I will try again to bring Trinamool to the anti-Left front before the next year's Assembly election in the State,'' he said while addressing a poll meeting.
The Trinamool chief had refused to be a part of the UDA on the grounds that Congress, a dominant constituent of the Alliance had joined hands with the CPM to run the Government in Delhi. Apart from Congress, UDA also had parties like Paschimbanga Unnyan Congress Mancha floated by dissident Trinamool leader and Mayor Subrata Mukherjee, Samajwadi Party (SP), Janata Dal Secular (JDS) etc.
Saying that coalition politics was order of the day, he pointed out that to defeat the Left Front, a separate front was very much needed.
''Many parties have come together under the banner of UDA. May be TC did not join due to some compulsion," he said.
