Geelani attacks separatist leaders visiting Pak Friday, June 10 2005 07:30 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Srinagar:
Hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani yesterday (Jun 9, 2005) launched a veiled attack on moderate separatist Kashmiri leaders visiting Pakistan accusing them of trying to harm the "struggle" of Kashmiris.
"Some disgruntled leaders are trying to intrude through the back door to harm the ongoing struggle," Geelani told a rally in an apparent reference to the moderate faction of Hurriyat leaders.
Retorting to moderate Hurriyat chief Mirwaiz Umer Farooq's remark in Islamabad on Wednesday (Jun 8, 2005) that UN resolutions have failed to solve the Kashmir issue and it was time for exploring other options, Geelani said, "There is no justification to give up the freedom struggle on the pretext that the United Nations is not advocating our case."
"These leaders are not speaking on behalf of Kashmiris but are toeing the language of India," he charged adding, "Those who are deviating from the cause of Kashmiris have no right to claim to be leaders of people".
Geelani cautioned the people against the leaders "toeing the line of India and were bent upon to harm the ongoing movement in Jammu and Kashmir."
