Withdrawal of resignation a high-profile drama: VHP Friday, June 10 2005 22:32 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Dismissing the withdrawal of resignation of BJP leader L K Advani as a "high-profile drama", the VHP today (Jun 10, 2005) said his continuance in the post even after the party's rejection of his line on Jinnah only shows his "weakness."
"If Advani is continuing as president even after the party has not accepted his line on Jinnah, it only shows his weakness," Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) senior vice-president Acharya Giriraj Kishore told reporters after the announcement about the withdrawal of Advani's resignation.
He said VHP would "never accept Jinnah as a secular person as said by Advani in Pakistan".
"In fact, this (the withdrawal of resignation) is a victory for the party and defeat for Advani," he said.
The VHP leader said the status of "one person" had been given more importance than party ideology in the entire episode.
"Advani did not adhere to his principles. He had said he would not withdraw his resignation but has done that now," Giriraj said.
He said the way other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders put pressure on Advani to withdraw his resignation only demonstrated the "lack" of leadership in the party.
