Nepali Congress leader Girija Prasad Koirala today (Jun 12, 2005) met Communist party Of India Marxist (CPM) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury and held detailed discussions on the political scenario in Nepal after the royal take over on February 1.
"We had a detailed discussion about the prevailing political situation in Nepal and Koirala briefed us about the Nepali people's struggle for restoration of democracy there,"
Yechury said, after a 40-minute meeting with the octogenarian leader from Nepal.
The Marxist leader said that his party had already expressed its "solidarity" with the struggle of Nepali people.
"We are still with the Nepali struggle for democracy and we fully support it," he said.
"Koirala also briefed us about the joint declaration of common agreement and commitment which depicted the unity among seven Nepali political parties in the struggle for democracy restoration," Yechury added.
Koirala had thanked the Indian party for its "long standing" support to the struggle in the Himalayan Kingdom.
The 81-year-old leader, who is in Delhi for the past eight days, had already met United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
