VHP likely to review ties with BJP at Hardwar meet Sunday, June 12 2005 19:33 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) is expected to review its ties with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the two-day crucial meeting of its apex decision-making body beginning in Hardwar on June 14.
Coming close on the heels of BJP president L K Advani's controversial Pakistan visit, the meeting is expected to take a serious view of his statements on Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Akhand Bharat and Babri mosque demolition.
Over 150 religious leaders including the VHP top brass would be attending the Kendriya Marg Darshak Mandal meeting, which would draw the "ideological roadmap" of polity, VHP general secretary Praveen Togadia told PTI over phone from Hardwar.
"Our support to BJP so far was based on ideology. If they do not fulfill our demand we will have to take the next step," he said without elaborating and not ruling out the possibility of the VHP floating a Hindu front.
The meeting, he said would be "historic" as it would draw the strategy for "Hinduisation of politics" and to bring together intellectuals, activists and academicians to build social pressure for the same.
Dismissing Advani's suggestion for a debate on Jinnah, he said "we don't need a debate on Kansa or Ravana or Jinnah for that matter. Those who have confusion should go on study leave to the university to study history," he said.
