Baglihar: Joint inspection of the site in October

Islamabad: Pakistan today (Jun 13, 2005) said its engineers will visit Baglihar hydro power project in Jammu and Kashmir before a joint inspection of the site along with World Bank neutral expert scheduled for October.

The two countries have agreed on different requirements including a visit of Pakistani engineers before the joint inspection takes place in October, Foreign Office Spokesman Jalil Abbas Jilani, who returned from Paris after attending the meeting of officials from India, Pakistan and World Bank neutral expert Raymond Lafitte, said.

He said modalities and schedule of engagements in order to resolve the dispute were discussed during the meeting.

Jilani said India will provide complete and up to-date information with regard to the project which Pakistan will substantiate on the basis of data provided by New Delhi.

Pakistan will also substantiate objections raised with regard to the project and India will respond to them.

He said this will be followed by a joint visit of neutral expert and technical teams from Pakistan and India to the site in October this year.

Before this, India has agreed to a visit to the site by Pakistan team to familiarise itself with regard to the latest developments, he said. Schedule of remaining meetings would be announced by the neutral expert himself.

He said the neutral expert assured that he wanted expeditious determination and closure of the issue.
