With the recovery of four more carcasses of peacocks the death toll of the national bird has rose to nine since yesterday, while efforts are being made by the forest department officials to save an injured peacock.
The peacocks were found dead in village Pipliya Kumar yesterday (Jun 12, 2005) under mysterious conditions by the villagers, who later informed the police and forest department about it.
"Four more peacocks have died since yesterday taking the toll to nine," District forest officer, Samita Rajora told sources in Indore.
Five peacocks were found dead and another was found in an injured condition in the village yesterday.
According to a veterinary surgeon the post-mortem report of the dead peacocks revealed that the national bird could have died due to excessive heat leading to stroke and consumption of contaminated water, she said adding, the doctor will be submitting its report in writing soon.
