Ensure security for Telgi & Anil Gote, says CBI
Monday, June 13 2005 15:19 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Pune: The MCOCA court should ensure adequate security arrangements before considering the applications of prime accused in multi-crore stamp-paper racket, Abdul Karim Telgi and former MLA Anil Gote, seeking specialised treatment at private hospitals, CBI said in Pune today (Jun 13, 2005).

HIV-afflicted Telgi and heart patient Gote, had filed separate applications through their lawyers Harshad Nimbalkar and Yogesh Pawar on June 8, before the court, praying that as they required specialised treatment in view of their illnesses, they be allowed to get admitted in private hospitals.

Special Judge S M Shembole had sought CBI's say on the applications of the two accused.

Responding on Telgi's application, the CBI said, "We do not have any objection to the accused getting the best of treatments available and that too in any private hospital of his choice at his own expense, subject to proper security arrangements for his personal safety.

"If the accused (Telgi) desires to avail of specialised treatment or wants to get admitted to a private hospital, such a prayer may be considered by the court after taking into consideration that he is a high-risk security accused", the agency said.

"The jailor be directed to ensure proper security arrangements while taking the accused out of the jail and also at the hospital or Nursing Home where he is likely to be admitted. Subject to the aforementioned conditions, this court may consider Telgi's application", the CBI said in its say.

The court is likely to give its order on the applications on June 20, the next date for hearing in the matter.
