Police remains clueless about Pataudi, accomplices Thursday, June 16 2005 19:58 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Jhajjar:
As yet another deadline lapsed today (Jun 16, 2005), Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and his accomplices did not present themselves to Haryana police in Jhajjar in connection with the blackbuck hunting case.
"None of them (Pataudi and others) approached police. However, police is doing its bit and conducting raids to nab them," Superintendent of Police, Hanief Qureshi said.
"No fresh summons will be given to Pataudi and others," who had been twice given notices to present themselves before police, he said.
The Punjab and Haryana High court at Chandigarh is scheduled to take up the anticipatory bail pleas of Pataudi and his co-accused Shashi Singh tomorrow (Jun 17, 2005).
Earlier, the court had refused interim bail to Pataudi and Singh and directed the Haryana Government to produce all relevant records pertaining to the case by Friday.
A Jhajjar police team led by Inquiry Officer Kaptan Singh has left for Chandigarh with police records in this case, sources said.
Meanwhile, Pataudi and his other seven accomplices remained incommunicado. One of the accused Madan Singh of Aurangpur village had been arrested in this case and later granted bail.
Madan Singh in his disclosure statement to police had claimed that Pataudi had fired at the black buck. Pataudi denies the charge.
Pataudi's counsel said that they would argue further once the state of Haryana placed records in the court tomorrow.
The former Indian Cricket captain and seven others have been booked under various sections of Wildlife Protection Act.
An FIR was registered against the accused and the police seized the vehicle in which the carcasses of a black buck and two rabbits, a rifle, a gun and some live cartridges were recovered from the accused on June 3 near a Wildlife sanctuary in Jhajjar.
