Dismissal of Gautam Goswami on the cards: Buta Friday, June 17 2005 14:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Patna:
Bihar Government has initiated the process for dismissal of former Patna district magistrate Gautam Goswami from service for his alleged involvement in multi-crore flood relief scam last year (2004), Governor Buta Singh said in Patna today (Jun 17, 2005).
"The Government has started the process for Goswami's dismissal and it is only a matter of time that he is arrested", Singh told reporters in his secretariat chamber.
Goswami had earlier this year (2005) resigned from the IAS and joined the Sahara group of companies at Lucknow as its vice-president. He, however, was dismissed by the Sahara group on June 6, following a threat by the vigilance bureau investigating the scam to sue them for not cooperating in ensuring Goswami's arrest.
Goswami, declared Young Asian Hero, by the Time Magazine alongside film icon Shahrukh Khan for his remarkable services in providing relief to flood victims last year (2004), was also served a notice by the State Government asking him to explain why action would not be taken against him for joining a private company even before his resignation was accepted.
The vigilance bureau has announced a reward of Rs one lakh to anyone who gave information leading to Goswami's arrest.
Goswami, whose anticipatory bail application by vigilance court was rejected on June 6 moved the Patna High Court for bail on June 13. The petition is yet to be heard.
