Telgi's illness alters plan to hand over documents
Friday, June 17 2005 17:33 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Pune: A sudden bout of illness has forced prime accused in multi-crore stamp-paper racket Abdul Karim Telgi to alter his plan to hand over a bunch of confidential papers and a copy of his will to his lawyers today (Jun 17, 2005). Telgi had planned to hand over a bunch of 125 confidential documents and a copy of his will to his lawyer Harshad Nimbalkar at Yerawada Central Jail where he is lodged, Milind Pawar, also his counsel in the case, told sources in Pune.

Mother of All Scams : The Bermuda Triangle!

"We were to go to Yerawada Central Jail to take possession of the documents and his will which he wanted to give to us. However, one of Telgi's nephews informed us over telephone that as his uncle was unwell since yesterday (Jun 16, 2005), it would be better if we postponed the visit", Pawar added.

Last week HIV-afflicted Telgi, who is also a diabetic and suffers from many other ailments, had been taken to Government-run Sassoon Hospital for routine check-up, he said.

Telgi had made an application on June 8, 2005 before the MCOCA court praying that as he required specialised treatment in view of the serious nature of his illness, he be allowed to get admitted in a private hospital.

The CBI had given a no-objection to Telgi's plea but submitted before the MCOCA court that it should, however, ensure that adequate security arrangements were in place before considering his application.

"If the accused (Telgi) desires to avail of specialised treatment or wants to get admitted to a private hospital, such a prayer may be considered by court after taking into account that he is a high-risk security accused", it had said.

The court is likely to give its order on Telgi's application on June 20, the next date for hearing.
