'Advani's views on Jinnah not party's views' Saturday, June 18 2005 15:18 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Stepping up his attack on L K Advani, former BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) ideologue K N Govindacharya today (Jun 18, 2005) accused him of glossing over Mohd Ali Jinnah's role in partition and contested the "endorsement" of his stance by the Parliamentary Board.
At a press conference in New Delhi, he insisted that Advani's "pre-determined" comments on Jinnah as well as the Ayodhya issue were an attempt by him to become a moderate for power in which he will not succeed because of his past.
Announcing the decision to launch a movement on the issue, Govindacharya maintained that Advani's "personal views" on Jinnah and "negating the 'Akhand Bharat' concept had not been ratified by BJP as it required endorsement from the party's National Council and not the Parliamentary Board.
"These are Advani's personal views till the National Council ratifies them. The endorsement by Parliamentary Board, which has nominated members, will not amount to these statements becoming party's views," he said.
"On such fundamental issues, Parliamentary Board or Working Committee cannot decide. According to the party's constitution, call the National Council, place your opinion and get it endorsed by it," he said.
"If the National Council also endorses his views, then the people will think about the party," he said, noting that some sections had already started dubbing BJP as "Bharatiya Jinnah Party".
