First woman Vice Admiral Arora becomes DG of MS

New Delhi: Adding another feather to her cap, first woman Vice Admiral Punita Arora today (Jun 20, 2005) made a history of sorts to don the rank of Director General of Medical Services in the Navy on secondment from the Army.

Arora, who is a Lt Gen, will now don the rank of Surgeon Vice Admiral, according to an official announcement made in New Delhi.

A renowned gynaecologist, Arora is currently Commandant of the Armed Forces medical college in Pune.

Decorated with Sena medal, Vishist Seva medal and the Chief of the Army staff commendation, Arora Commanded the Military hospital in Jammu and Kashmir and also was an Additional Director General Armed Forces Medical Services at Army Headquarters in New Delhi.
