The Indian Newspaper Society (INS) will hold its historic 500th meeting in Lahore tomorrow (Jun 24, 2005), the first such meeting to be held outside the country, reflecting the importance given by the organisation to the peace process between India and Pakistan.
The INS delegation currently touring Pakistan will hold its Advertising and Executive Committee meetings in Lahore tomorrow before leaving for New Delhi, President of the INS, Pradeep Guha said.
The Executive Committee would deliberate on organisational issues.
This is the first time that INS, one of the oldest media organisations in the subcontinent, holds its meeting outside India.
The decision reflects the importance the Indian media attaches to the current peace process to normalise the relations between the two countries, Guha told reporters in Islamabad yesterday (Jun 22, 2005).
The 30-member delegation comprising top editors and executives of the Indian media wound up its visit to Islamabad and left for Lahore today (Jun 23, 2005).
Yesterday, they interacted with Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, after a lunch hosted by Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed.
The INS delegates include N Murali, Joint Managing Director, The Hindu Mohit Jain, Dy Director Business and Commercial of Times of India, Mammen Mathew, Jacob Mathew Executive Editor of Malayala Manorama, Jose Thomas Pattara of Deepika and Ramasubbaiyer Lakshmipathy of Dinamalar among others.
