Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi today (Jun 23, 2005) led the nation in paying homage to late Congress leader Sanjay Gandhi on his 25th death anniversary.
Gandhi, Singh and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit paid floral tributes at Shantivana, the 'samadhi' of the leader on the banks of the river Yamuna here early this morning .
Sanjay's widow Menaka Gandhi and son Varun along with a large number of the late leader's followers also offered tributes at his flower-bedecked memorial.
Union Ministers Ghulam Nabi Azad, Kamal Nath and Jagdish Tytler were among the other leaders who attended a prayer meeting held on the occasion.
Sanjay Gandhi, the younger son former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, died on this day in 1980 in a plane crash.
