Yashwant Sinha attacks own party Govt in J'khand Thursday, June 23 2005 19:12 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
After his recent remarks on the Jinnah controversy, senior BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader Yashwant Sinha today (Jun 23, 2005) created fresh flutters when he attacked his party-led coalition Government in Jharkhand accusing it of corruption and extravagance.
He also charged the Arjun Munda Government with being ineffective in solving water and power problems in the State.
"I have raised the issue of corruption because the party workers who come to me have complained of corruption at the local level. The ordinary people are being troubled. There is a need to put a stop to this," Sinha told Zee News channel.
He accused the State Government of being "extravagant" in its spending on facilities for ministers at a time when the people of the State were not even getting electricity.
"When everybody in the Government travels in Ambassadors, the Jharkhand Government took the decision to buy Ford Endeavours, which is an expensive car, for all its ministers. Money has also been spent on things like ACs. On the other hand, the condition of the people is so bad. They do not even get electricity," Sinha said.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda reacted by saying, "Just because six letters were not replied to does not mean that there is nothing like governance in the State."
He also said Sinha should have raised the issue at a party forum. "I would have liked to discuss the issue within the party," Munda said.
When the Jinnah controversy broke out and BJP President L K Advani had resigned, Sinha had expressed doubts whether Advani would be effective as Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha after his resignation.
