Diesel hike will cost Indian Rlys Rs 325 cr more

Chennai: The recent hike in the prices of diesel will result in an additional burden of Rs 325 crore to the Indian Railways, Minister of State for Railways, R Velu said in Chennai.

"A decision whether or not to increase the passenger fares will be taken in consultation with the Railway Minister after my return to Delhi," he told newsmen in an informal chat after reviewing the progress of a couple of railway works in the city.

Velu said the second terminal of the Central Railway Station would be put up at the adjacent Salt Quarters area at a cost of Rs 90 crore.

Seven platforms in the Central Railway Station will be upgraded at a cost of Rs one crore soon, he said.
